Cyclone Freddy survivors encouraged to rebuild lives

Police families who were affected by the Cyclone Freddy have been encouraged to rebuild and remain positive if they are to defeat the trauma they went through.

The call was made by the Deputy Inspector of Police for adminstration Mr. Happy Mkandawire on Tuesday April 18, 2023 when he presented donated items and cash to the 78 Police families who were affected by Cyclone Freddy earlier this year.

The function took place at Edgas Lodge in Mulanje. The donation comes amid continued support that the affected families need after losing their property following the Cyclone Freddy that hit the southern part of the country.

Mkandawire who presented the items of behalf of the Inspector General of Police, urged the affected families to remain positive and move on with their lives if they are to overcome the trauma of the cyclone.

"These families lost everything and require well wishers support as you can see the situation they are in now. This is a defining period that we can come around to give them support materially, spritually and morally," said Mkandawire.

One of the survivors, Constable Takondwa Tembo was upbeat that the lives of the affected officers and their families will now be rejuvinated following the moral, spritual and material suport they are receiving.

"Its not the first time that these officers are being cheered, the Malawi Police through Women Welfare were here but now that the Deputy Police Chief is here its something so encouraging morally." She said.

The donation comes from contributions police officers and their families put together to help their fellow police officers.

Among the items donated were rice, beans and cash which each of the 78 families has received. The families were drawn from Muloza, Phalombe, Chiladzulu, Chikuli, Malaka, Masambanjati.
