Police Chief applauds SARPCCO games for police networking in SADC

The Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mrs. Merlyn Yolamu, PPM, has hailed the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO) games for fostering interactions among national police institutions in the fight against transnational crimes.

 

Yolamu made the remarks when she hosted a reception for the returning Malawi Police teams that participated in the 11th SARPCCO Games, 2022, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

 

She cited human trafficking and illegal immigration as common transnational crimes that need cooperation among SADC police institutions.

In his earlier remarks, the Deputy Inspector General responsible for Operations, Mr. Casper Chalera who chaired the Malawi SARPCCO Games, 2022 taskforce, hailed Police management, organizations and individuals who supported the local police teams to participate in the games.

 

Malawi Police Service won one gold medal in netball, three silver medals and four bronze medals in other sports disciplines.

The Service sent six teams including football, netball, chess, darts, volleyball and athletics where netball emerged the champions after beating their Zimbabwe counterparts by 42:41 baskets.

Its men's football team became second after being defeated by the host, Tanzania in the finals by 2:1 goals.
