Man arrested for stealing motor vehicle at music show in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police Station has arrested 35-year-old Edward Chiweta, for stealing a motor vehicle at Lilongwe Golf Club during a music show and later crushing it after a police follow-up on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

On Sunday night, Lilongwe Golf Club hosted a music show organized by a local artist who was supported by a Tanzanian singer.

At around 20:00 hours while Police were patrolling along Mtunthama Drive, driver of a Mazda Demio, registration number BV 3196 was speeding and overtaking unnecessarily. He  caught the attention of the officers leading to a pursuit.

Several attempts to stop him proved futile until he reached Crossroads junction, opposite City Mall, where he lost control of the vehicle and fell into a ditch.

Immediately,  he was arrested before being ferried to Bwaira Hospital where he was treated as an outpatient.

Whilst at the Station for road accident procedures, the cops received a report about a stolen vehicle at Lilongwe Golf Club.

Full details of the missing vehicle matched with the one that Chiweta was driving. He voluntarily admitted to have stolen the vehicle.

He has since been charged with the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle, and will appear in court soon to face law.
