In a strive to enhance security around Chitipi area in Lilongwe, Global Seeds Limited, an indigenous seed company, has emphasized the crucial role of companies and stakeholders in supporting security institutions in their operations areas.

The Company's Projects Manager, Sheriff Mgwira, has disclosed this on the sidelines of the donation of 30 reflective jackets and 18 whistles the company has made to Chitipi Police Unit, operating under Lilongwe Police Station.

Mgwira says the donation follows a request the police formation made earlier in the year. He has therefore emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing safety and security of the community, stating, "The Police can perform better with full support, including equipment that strengthens community policing structures. This is why we are delighted to make the donation, which includes whistles and reflective jackets to the tune of K350,000.00."

Upon receiving the donation, Inspector Miriam Chaponda, Officer In-Charge for the Police Unit, has expressed gratitude to Global Seeds management for their timely response.

She has therefore highlighted the positive impact the reflective jackets and whistles will have on the police formation's visibility and community policing fora's vigilance.

"We promise to take good care of the equipment and encourage the community policing fora to work extra harder. The items will be distributed to all community policing fora under our policing area to enable them perform more effective patrols to improve community safety," Chaponda adds.A group photograph of representatives from global Seeds and Chitipi Police Unit

Community Policing Coordinator for the Unit, Sub Inspector Aron Nkhoma, echoed that the donated equipment would revamp community policing structures that were previously lacking such items: "The donation will enable us to conduct intensive patrols around Chitipi, considering that some fora were not able to operate properly due to lack of equipment such as reflectors, which help in easy communication and visibility," said Nkhoma.

Global Seed Limited, situated in the growing industrial areas of Njewa and Chitipi, specializes in producing seeds of improved varieties of drought-tolerant hybrid maize and legumes.
