How to Report a Crime

Malawi Police Service is grateful to the general public, business community, tourists/visitors, Government employees and all stakeholders for their continued support and would encourage anyone with information about a crime to come forward. You can report a crime anonymously through your telephone, your privacy or identity will not be revealed.

If you are a victim of crime, have witnessed a crime or would simply like to inform the Police about a crime that has been committed, there are several ways to do it: You can:

  • Contact the nearest Police Station in person or Police Officer on patrol
  • Call us on any of the following:
    • Dial the toll free number 0800 990 997
    • Dial the emergency toll free numbers 990 or 997
    • Dial the land-line of the nearest Police Station
  • Use our social media accounts:
  • Contact us using the details on the contact page
You will be asked to provide the following details:
  • Nature of the offence
  • Time of offence
  • Locality e.g. plot number, street address, house number or any nearest structure
  • Identity of the suspect or physical description of the suspect
  • Method of operation if known e.g. weapon used
  • Witnesses where possible
The reporter should:
  • Request the name of the Police Officer receiving the report
  • Not temper with the scene
  • Take into consideration his/her own personal security and safety. You should also take into consideration the safety of other people.
