The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga, has concluded a familiarization and engagement tour of the Eastern, South East and South West Police Regions, where he underscored professionalism, integrity, hard work and women empowerment, among others, as key components of effective policing.
During the meetings held at Zomba Police College Officers’ Mess Grounds (Eastern Region) on January 13, 2026, South East Region Headquarters and PTS Limbe (South West Region) on January 14, 2026, the IGP urged officers to uphold the Police Code of Ethics, refrain from corrupt practices and avoiding involvement in partisan politics.
IGP Luhanga emphasized that promotions and rewards under his administration will be strictly performance-based, encouraging officers to go the extra mile in the execution of their duties.
He further called on officers to enhance Police visibility, intensify patrols and adopt innovative crime-prevention strategies in order to strengthen public trust.
Another highlight of the visits was the IGP’s call for women empowerment, where he encouraged female officers to work hard and confidently take up senior and challenging leadership positions traditionally dominated by men.
“Women, this is your time to rise and showcase your capabilities,” said the IGP, reiterating his commitment to gender equality within the Service.
The IGP also emphasized teamwork, love for one another and unity among officers, noting that Police officers are each other’s keepers. He assured officers that his Administration is working towards addressing operational challenges, including housing, mobility, office space and infrastructure.
Deputy Commissioners of Police from the respective Regions thanked the Inspector General for the visits and highlighted both achievements and challenges affecting policing operations. They pledged full support to the IGP’s vision of “Bringing Police back to the people.”
In the South West Region, the IGP demonstrated recognition of merit by promoting Sergeant Evelyn Damiano to the rank of Sub-Inspector.
The meetings were attended by senior and junior officers from all Police formations across the three regions.
Prior to the festive period in December 2025, the IGP visited the Northern and Central East Regions.
