IGP champions professionalism, integrity and women empowerment during Regional tours

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga, has concluded a familiarization and engagement tour of the Eastern, South East and South West Police Regions, where he underscored professionalism, integrity, hard work and women empowerment, among others, as key components of effective policing.

IGP Luhanga raises Malawi's flag higher at INTERPOL’s 93rd General Assembly

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga has raised Malawi’s profile  as he led the Malawi Police Service delegation to the 93rd INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization) General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Malawi delegation left the country through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on November 20, and returned home November 29, 2025.

The high-level gathering brought together police leaders from across the world to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational crimes.

INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE HOSTS BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga, on Monday, November 17, 2025, hosted the British High Commissioner to Malawi, Mrs. Rebecca Fabrizi, at the National Police Headquarters (Area 30) in Lilongwe. She was accompanied by Mr. Donal Ahern, Political Secretary at the British High Commission.

In his welcoming remarks, the IGP highlighted the long-standing relationship between Malawi and Britain, describing Malawi as a “one country whose strong partnerships remain key to building a resilient security sector.” 

Malawi Police destroys 733 illegal firearms

In commemorating the International Gun Destruction Day, the Malawi Police Service (MPS) has destroyed 733 illegal firearms confiscated from various individuals, in a bid to reduce the proliferation of firearms and enhance national security.

The exercise took place at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe, where Deputy Inspector General responsible for Operations, Mr. Ackis Muwanga, who was the guest of honour, urged citizens to support MPS in building communities free from the threat of gun-related violence.

RBM empowers Police FM reporters with financial literacy and monitory policy reporting skills

The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has reiterated that financial literacy among its stakeholders is vital in supporting the central bank’s efforts to manage the country’s economy.

Speaking on Thursday, 26 June 2025, during a Financial Literacy and Monetary Policy training held in Salima, RBM’s Director of Public Relations, Boston Maliketi Banda, stressed the significant role the media play in informing the public about financial matters.
