Two arrested in infamous murder of Chirimba woman, police warn against social media commentary on cases under investigation

Suspects

Police in Blantyre has arrested two suspects in connection to the murder of Shanaz Yusuf, a Chirimba Township woman whose death on June 29, 2025 sparked public condemnation and social media debate.

The suspects, Charles Petrol 25, and Alex Mangwaya 27, have since confessed to have murdered the woman and have demonstrated to the police how they tricked and killed her before dumping her body in Chipironi River within the township.

The arrest, made over the weekend, follows a discreet intelligence-driven operation by police detectives who employed their anti-cyber crime skills to follow up the leads and corner the suspects.

Some people took Yusuf's murder to social media and nested the entire conversation along religious lines without evidence.

Police warn the public against making comments on its ongoing investigations without evidence which fuel hatred against innocent individuals or some social groups.

The suspects will appear in court soon to answer murder charges. Charles Petrol 25, is from Mkosa Village, Traditional Authority Chapananga in Chikwawa District while Alex Mangwaya 27 comes from Mbeya Village, T/A Nankumba in Mangochi.
