Malawi welcomes Zimbabwe military students on education tour

A 27-member delegation of military students from Zimbabwe Staff College is in the country for a week-long educational tour aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in peace and security.

The delegation, comprising officers from various defence forces across Southern Africa, is on the security education tour under the theme: “Peace, an Enabler of Development.” The initiative seeks to expose the officers to Malawi’s peacekeeping efforts and strategies employed by its security institutions to maintain safety and stability.

During one of their key engagements, the students visited the Malawi Police Service Headquarters in Lilongwe, where they were welcomed by the Commissioner of Police responsible for Research and Planning, Mr. Dennis Chipao.

“We believe that regional peace and stability can only be achieved through shared knowledge, trust and mutual understanding,” said Chipao adding that Malawi is committed to promoting security collaboration across borders to ensure lasting peace in the SADC region.

Leading the group, Captain Shepard Poswo expressed appreciation for the warmth reception and praised the country’s peaceful environment.

“We are impressed with calm and stable atmosphere in Malawi. It’s clear that peace is not just a goal here, but a lived reality,” said Poswo.

The group was escorted by Lieutenant Colonel Luhanga from the Malawi Defence Force, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between regional security institutions.

“These kinds of initiatives encourage mutual understanding and unity among forces in the SADC region,” he said.

Throughout the week, the military students are expected to engage with various security institutions across the country, sharing experiences and exploring new strategies for promoting peace and stability in the region.
