Police in the Southwest have arrested a gang of five suspects on suspicion of murder and robbery.
On 13 June, 2025 it was reported that unknown criminals shot dead Mr. Omar Mbeta aged 50 who hailed from Chigonele village Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi while doing business in his shop at Chatha trading centre in Chileka.
Upon receiving the information, a team of detectives instituted intensive investigations, which led to the arrest of the five suspects.
The suspects stole unspecified amount of cash, a Samsung A32 phone, Airtel money phone, keypad phone and Tnm Mpamba phone from the scene of crime.
The detectives managed to recover Samsung A32 phone which has been positively identified by the reporter.
During interview, suspects confessed to have committed robberies in Chilomoni, Mwanza and murder/robbery at Chatha in Blantyre.
Meanwhile, investigations are still underway to recover the remaining items and the rifle used in the commission of the offences.

Robert Assam, 49,from Njirika village Traditional Authority Chamba in Machinga.
Douglas Sandram, 51 from Kazembe village Traditional Authority Liwonde in Machinga District.
Samson Kasambwe, 18, Mwembere village Traditional Authority Somba in Blantyre and Genisis Mastala, 36, hails from Chimpesa village, Traditional Authority Mpama in Chiradzulu District. They will appear before the court of law on 26August 2025.
Police is therefore warning all would-be offenders that they will not be spared and the long arm of the law will catch them.
