INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE HOSTS BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER

A handshake at the end of the meeting

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga, on Monday, November 17, 2025, hosted the British High Commissioner to Malawi, Mrs. Rebecca Fabrizi, at the National Police Headquarters (Area 30) in Lilongwe. She was accompanied by Mr. Donal Ahern, Political Secretary at the British High Commission.

In his welcoming remarks, the IGP highlighted the long-standing relationship between Malawi and Britain, describing Malawi as a “one country whose strong partnerships remain key to building a resilient security sector.” 

On her part, the High Commissioner emphasized the need to re-establish and further strengthen cooperation with Institutions, following the recent electoral cycle.

However, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration across various areas of policing. Discussions focused on training support, capacity building, transfer of skills, and the development of a more resilient police service capable of responding effectively to emerging security threats. 

The IGP also expressed Malawi’s continued readiness to deploy officers to United Nations peacekeeping missions, noting the professional benefits such missions provide to the service.

The High Commissioner reaffirmed Britain's ongoing commitment to supporting Malawi’s governance and security reforms, particularly in areas of professional development, and institutional strengthening.

Joining the IGP on the Malawi Police Service delegation were Deputy Inspector General (Administration), Dr. Noel Kayira, Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Mr Stain Chaima, Deputy Director of Research & Planning, Mr Frederick Chande (DCP)  and Deputy Director of Human Resource Development, Dr Joseph Mutupha (ACP).

The visit concluded with a renewed pledge to deepen cooperation and maintain the historic ties that have long guided Malawi–UK relations in the area of Law enforcement.
