FDH Bank commissionaires arrested for stealing customer's K340,000

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested two FDH Bank commissionaires on suspicion that they stole a customer's K340,000 cash at the bank's Auto Teller Machine (ATM) in the district.

The suspects, who work at Chiradzulu FDH Bank branch, have been identified as William Mitiyali, 33, of Nansanya Village, Traditional Authority Nchiramwera in Thyolo and Alfred Mkwanda, 30, of Mpira Village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi.

Reports show that between June 14 and 15 this year, the customer went to make transactions at Chiradzulu FDH Bank and she asked for help as usual from the first suspect, Mitiyali.

In course of helping her, Mitiyali demanded her pin number including her full details.

After giving him the details, she later discovered that someone had withdrawn the said cash from her account at Goliati ATM through cardless withdrawal mode on the day she met with the suspect.

After lodging official complaint to Chiradzulu FDH Bank, CCTV footage revelations led to the arrest of the second suspect, Mkwanda, who disclosed that the first suspect generated the PIN for him to cash from the said account.

The duo will appear in court to answer theft charge contrary to Section 278 of the Penal Code.

Police is therefore advising the public to refrain from sharing their confidential details with unauthorized people.
