IG's wife applauds Lunzu women welfare

On February 11, 2022 wife to the Inspector General of Malawi Police Service, Mai Jacqueline Kainja visited Lunzu Police Unit and appreciated the cordial relationship among women welfare members at the police unit 

During her speech, Mai IG encouraged the grouping to continue the spirit of working together to uplift further the services of the grouping. 

She said "love must be the centre of all our deeds. Prayer among women is key". 

Mai IG, took time to hear some views and requests from the women to deliver directly to the Inspector General.

Malawi Police celebrates 100th Anniversary

Malawi Police Service on November 30 2021 commemorated its 100th Anniversary.

The event was presided over by His Excellency the State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and it was held at the National Police Headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe.

The President said there is a need to equip the police with adequate resources to ensure effective and efficient policing. He also said it is the responsibility of every Malawian to help the police rebuild its image.

Criminal Investigations

This department is responsible for investigating serious cases. Officers in this department put on civilian clothes to mingle well with the public as they gather intelligence, track leads to suspects and arrest criminals. Sections within the CID include: Interpol, Homicide Unit, Drug Unit, Anti-Motor Vehicle Theft Unit, Dog Section, Fingerprint Section, Digital Forensic Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, Anti-Organized Crime Unit, Fiscal and Fraud Section, Wildlife and Environmental Investigation Crime Unit, Firearms and Ballistic Unit and Photography.

Police Mobile Service

This is a specialized branch of the Malawi Police Service that is responsible for public order management, patrols, escorts, guard and VVIP security. PMS Officers put on camouflage uniform and are ordinarily deployed to quell riots and public disorders.

Chakwera hails Police for tightening security

The President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has hailed police officers in the country for the commendable job they are doing in making the country safe.

Chakwera made the sentiments on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Limbe Police Training School in Blantyre when he presided over a passing out parade of 1367 recruit constables.

The main purpose of this report is to present a picture of how we have fared on our core mandate as well as other supporting activities.

In the year 2023, we witnessed an increase in recorded crime, with a total of 45,490 cases compared to 42,793 cases in 2022, representing an increase of 6%. While this may pose a challenge and instill a sense of fear of crime in people, it is also crucial to recognize the proactive measures taken by the Malawi Police Service.
