It is responsible for developing policies and designing internal security programs for the service. It conducts research and manages both crime and road traffic data. It also monitors and evaluates police development programs.

It is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of good relations between the MPS and the general public, dissemination of MPS information to the public and provision of publication and photography services.

The branch is responsible for recruitment, training and development, management of human resource and provision of chaplaincy and social welfare services. Sections under this branch include: Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, Chaplaincy Sports and Welfare Services.

The branch is responsible for management and maintenance of IT services and equipment. It also provides radio and telecommunication services.

It is responsible for securing Malawi’s airports through conducting searches of passengers and cargo. It is also responsible for securing airport installations.

The branch is responsible for conducting patrols on territorial waters. It also provides support services such as search and rescue in times of disasters.
