Gang arrested for murder, robbery

Police in the Southwest have arrested a gang of five suspects on suspicion of murder and robbery.

On 13 June, 2025 it was reported that unknown criminals shot dead Mr. Omar Mbeta aged 50 who hailed from Chigonele village Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi while doing business in his shop at Chatha trading centre in Chileka.

Upon receiving the information, a team of detectives instituted intensive investigations, which led to the arrest of the five suspects.

Malawi welcomes Zimbabwe military students on education tour

A 27-member delegation of military students from Zimbabwe Staff College is in the country for a week-long educational tour aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in peace and security.

 

The delegation, comprising officers from various defence forces across Southern Africa, is on the security education tour under the theme: “Peace, an Enabler of Development.” The initiative seeks to expose the officers to Malawi’s peacekeeping efforts and strategies employed by its security institutions to maintain safety and stability.

 

Two arrested in infamous murder of Chirimba woman, police warn against social media commentary on cases under investigation

Police in Blantyre has arrested two suspects in connection to the murder of Shanaz Yusuf, a Chirimba Township woman whose death on June 29, 2025 sparked public condemnation and social media debate. 

The suspects, Charles Petrol 25, and Alex Mangwaya 27, have since confessed to have murdered the woman and have demonstrated to the police how they tricked and killed her before dumping her body in Chipironi River within the township.

Malawi Police Service launches revised Public Order Policy ahead of 2025 elections

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has launched the revised Public Order Management Policy and Operational Guidelines (3rd Edition) to ensure peace and safety during public gatherings and large-scale events, particularly ahead of the 2025 General Elections. The announcement was made during a meeting of senior police officers at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on 14th April 2025.
